De Sphaeris
About Us
“De Sphaeris” ensemble, formed in 2012 by Davide Vecchi and Andrea Antonel, works through ancient music and dance in search of the fine connections between them. The name (in Latin, meaning "down from the heavenly Spheres") refers to the Theory of Spheres, an idea taken from the Greek-Roman culture and that can also be found in treatises of science, music and dance of the Renaissance and Baroque eras: the Spheres in the sky where the planets are seated create the heavenly Harmonies with their perfect geometrical orbits. Human Arts and Sciences must aim for this heavenly order. The perfect match of movement and sound is what we look for in our performances, in which we nurture the intricate partnership of musicians and artists specialised in ancient repertoire. In our ensemble we combine different skills, and our purpose is to create a perfect synergy between them. We are all able to blend our knowledge and experiences that come from different fields of the historical research--musical, choreographic, and expressive--and to venture into different artistic roles.
